I heard people were being given bracelets that took their memories. I don't really trust that not to go disastrously.

There's always some kind of disaster happening around here. I don't really get it, honestly. You'd think the locals would be more worried.

Hoo boy, that's a rabbit hole I'm not sure I want to go down right now. Let's just say my opinion is that to have all the wonderful fantasy things, you have to accept the bad ones too.

I guess it's similar to people who still live in areas prone to natural disasters.

I think of it more like a cabin in the woods. Wonderful view, close to nature, but also... close to nature.

Yeah. Guess some people are just way more used to nature than me.

That sort of danger is pretty far removed from what I'm used to. But people? That's the danger I know.

It's possible to grind that danger out of people, too. Just extinguish their spark. Saying that is, I think, the strongest possible argument against doing so.

You see that sort of thing in Martinaise. It's the area I was investigating the murder in. Extremely poor, even poorer than the area I'm from. It was just left to rot after the war ended.

Poverty's sure one way, although not the ideal one. The ideal is a state that produces no emotions whatsoever. Comfort without luxury, no fear of either falling back or advancing forward. Drones in cubicles.

Revachol's situation means things like that are rare, at least in my area. The only "state" in my country is run by capitalism.

Your situation sounds just as miserable.

There's still some of us pushing back, so the fight hasn't been entirely lost yet. No matter how it might feel sometimes.
